So, I have no PhD behind my name nor have I done any research, but I believe the way we move from selfishness towards selflessness is by loving God first and then accepting God's love for us. This is what positions our hearts to love others through service in a selfless way. None of these objectives allow us to know we have arrived, they only gauge our journey.
This week as we work on loving God and accepting His love, we do it by counting our blessings - by looking at how blessed we are.
Side note: I believe loving God and accepting God's love go hand-in-hand. I actually think it is possible to know God loves us, without accepting His love for us, but I don't think it is possible to really love Him and not accept His love. His love is like taking a shower. You can stand under a shower and not get clean, but you can't stand under a shower and not get wet. So, to move toward selflessness, you can't just know God loves you. You have to love God and accept His love for you. Get wet and clean. End Side note
Last week, I had the privilege to attend the Poverty Institute and the Coaching Institute (more to come). One thing I learned was individuals who are living in the crisis of poverty and receive food stamps receive about $1.47 per person per meal. This week, my kids and I each have a day to cook dinner and we must prepare dinner on $7.35 (5 times $1.47).
